What is a School Prom / Student Prom?
Proms, short for promenade ball, is a semi-formal black tie dance and is generally held at the end of an academic year at schools, colleges and universities, and eminates from North American culture.
In the United Kingdom these type of events are sometimes referred to as the Leavers' Ball, or Leavers Dinner or Do, but it is becoming increasingly more common for this type of event to be known as School or Student Prom here also. The prom will usually involve dancing, dining, socialising and the crowning of a prom King and Queen, although this latter aspect is not generally the practice at proms here in England.

Suitable Prom Wear attire: What will I need to wear?
Well, Proms are usually black tie formalwear events (i.e. black dinner jacket, bow tie and cummerbund) although generally speaking there are no rules set in stone as to exactly what kind of formalwear should be worn as prom wear, unless your invitation details provide specific guidelines. Don't forget we're more than happy to offer our expert help and advice in our three menswear shops across the East Midlands region.
Black Dinner Suits can look particularly impressive and striking if combined with a brightly coloured evening waistcoat and a contrasting ruche, or a matching brightly coloured cummerbund and bow tie.
