Early Beginnings...
Sanders Menswear opened in May of 1935, a year that saw T. E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) die, the release of the classic and ever popular board game Monopoly, as well as the release of the first ever Penguin paperback book, and Persia became known as Iran.
The business was opened by Mr G C Sanders, who at the age of just ten years old, lost both his parents and had to move to Birmingham to live with a sister.
At the age of just fourteen, Mr G C Sanders managed to gain employment with Foster Bros Menswear, and eventually came to live in Heanor in Derbyshire to serve as manager of the Foster Bros Menswear branch there.
Together with the financial help of his wife, Mr G C Sanders managed to open the Eastwood branch of Sanders Menswear in Nottinghamshire.
Building on early foundations...
After the difficult years of the Second World War, the present Eastwood branch of Sanders Menswear was purchased in 1960.
Subsequently, two further premises, positioned in prominent high street locations, situated in the nearby local towns of Ilkeston, Derbyshire, and Alfreton, Derbyshire were added to form a solid portfolio of local Menswear and Formal Suit Hirewear stores.
74 years later and still going strong!
Mr Brian Sanders, and then Mr Robert Sanders, subsequently became managing directors of the family firm spanning some 74 years to date at the time of writing.
And still Sanders Menswear and our stores are moving from strength to strength!
Embracing the future...
And indeed moving from strength to strength is something that we hope to continue to do so for many a year to come yet here at Sanders Menswear, as we embrace technological advances and changes that can only help improve our service to you.
We are all looking forward to what the future holds with a great deal of positivity and enthusiasm!
